Pie & Ice Cream Social takes place June 10

Updated: 18 hours ago

It’s time for pie and ice cream!  The Middleton Area Historical Society Pie & Ice Cream social is Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Lakeview Park, from 5-8 pm.  Madison’s New Horizons Swing Band will perform from 6:30 – 7:30 pm

The Pie & Ice Cream Social  is the historical society’s major fundraiser that has taken place almost every year in the past 50 plus years. Pie and ice cream and other delicious items are available for purchase. Cash and checks are accepted.

We are grateful for our major sponsor, Hubbard Avenue Diner, who donates in memory of Helen Black, who was a family relative and dedicated member of the historical society.  We are also appreciative of donations/financial support from Hy-Vee, Kwik Trip, Willy Street Coop, Community CoWorks, and CVS.  This year, Bruce Company is donating plants to use as decorations and will be for sale.

The Pie & Ice cream social was the brainchild of our Board member Edith Ersland as a fundraiser for the historical society. Edith, who was a law student at the time, served on the board with her mother and a slate of very dedicated volunteers.

At the time, the historical society had just been established, and opened a very small museum in the basement of the City building.  The museum in the basement quickly ran out of space.  Around 1989, two events happened.  Arlene Rowley, the last of family members to live at 7410 Hubbard, passed away.  Around the same time, historical society member and bachelor farmer Gilsie Techam sold his farmland along the Beltline, and offered to purchase the Rowley property on behalf of MAHS.  Arlene’s son Dan Morhoff agreed to the sale, to establish a museum.

For many years, members held the social at Fireman’s Park. Eventually it was moved to Lakeview Park and has been there ever since.

The social takes place rain or shine, so please plan to come and bring a healthy appetite.
